8/13/15 – 6 Weeks Out – DE Upper

And just like that, another week completed on the downhill sprint that is meet prep. I did something today that I have not done in a very long time, I got into the gym at 6am. During high school, I trained at this time everyday but since then I can probably count on 1 hand the number of times I have trained that early. I had forgotten how nice of a wake up hitting the gym before sunrise can be and today has been wonderful. Although I probably won’t be making a habit of early morning training, it is nice to know that the time of day does not throw me off my game and I’m still able to hit it as hard as ever. Today’s session broke down like this…

  • Stretch and Warm-Up
  • Speed Bench
    • 175x6x2
  • Arnold Press
    • 55×12, 60×12, 65×12
  • Wide Grip Pull-Ups – 3×15
  • Meadow Rows
    • 50×20, 75×15, 100×10
  • Barbell Shrug
    • 155×15, 185×15, 205×15
  • Light Band Pressdowns – 50 reps
  • Hanging Leg Raises – 3×10

175lbs is the heaviest I have ever gone with my speed bench work and I can see why. The weight definitely moved slower today but that is to be expected at that percentage of my max with bands included. This also tells me I have been doing my speed work in the past with about the right amount of weight, a nice little bit of information that I will keep in mind.

I’m already only 5 weeks out from the RPS North Kentucky Throwdown. As I mentioned in previous posts I will begin attempting openers and seconds for the next couple weeks which will be exciting but also go a long way in determining where I am strength-wise. This also means that I will be getting videos of my reps again at near max weights. Tomorrow will be a day of rest followed by heavy squats and deads on Saturday. Until then!
