7/5/15 – Week 5, Day 1 – ME Lower

Today I traveled to Terre Haute in order to train heavy squats with my coach. It’s not everyday you attempt to set a new max on the squat. I knew I had made a lot of progress on my lifts, so much so that I had no idea what to expect going into today. When the dust settled, I did in fact set a new max with plenty left in the tank for more going into my meet this fall. Training went as follows.

  • Stretch and Warm-Up
  • Back Squat
    • Bar x15, 105x2x5, 145×5, 195×3, 235×3, 285×3, 325×1, 375×1, 415×1, 435×1, 455×1, 475×1, 445×1 (wrapped up just to feel it out)
    • 395×5, 375×7
  • Paused, Wide Squat
    • 285×10, 295×7, 305×6
  • Romanian Deadlift
    • 275×8, 275×8, 225×12
  • Band Leg Curls (vs. Elitefts Mini Bands) – 4×20
  • Upper Back Ext. (vs. Elitefts Mini Bands) – 3×20
  • Cable Ab Pulldowns – 4×10

I actually had Brandon videotape my reps with 455 and 475 but we haven’t gotten to trade film yet so I’ll have to put them up later. I am very excited to say the least. All of these numbers were hit with sleeves only so I have great expectations come September when I am peaking and wrapped up. I will celebrate this small victory but I have to refocus on setting new maxes on Bench and Deadlift tomorrow and next Sunday. Until then!
